Facts and Myths about a Vegan Lifestyle
Get your facts straight
“As I improved my diet, I started to learn to love myself, probably for the first time ever.”-Frank Ferrante
There are many myths surrounding veganism, and today I want to debunk them one by
one.
MYTH: Vegan diets make you weak
FACT: There are vegan NFL players, MLS players, parkour athletes, and world champion powerlifters that perform at the highest levels. Athlete Rich Roll is vegan and was named one of the fittest men in the world by Men’s Fitness magazine!
MYTH: Going vegan is just too expensive
FACT: It’s easier to eat plant-based on a limited budget than it is to eat a meat-centered diet. Staples like grains, potatoes, bananas, and beans are some of the cheapest (and healthiest) things you can buy in the supermarket!
MYTH: We need milk and dairy products for strong bones.
FACT: There’s zero scientific evidence to support this claim! A number of nutrients contribute to strong healthy bones which can be found in several different food groups, not just cows milk.
MYTH: There is no proof that a plant-based diet is healthier than other diets.
FACT: A low-fat, whole-food, plant-based diet is the only diet that has been shown to halt and reverse life-threatening conditions like heart disease and diabetes. Also, vegetarian and vegan populations have lower rates of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity.
MYTH: Vegan diets are limiting
FACT: Not only are there vegan versions of all your favorite foods, going vegan will open up a whole new world of products to your diet. The truth is, eating animal products is more limiting than going vegan. With a vegan diet, it’s likely that you’ll discover foods you’ve never heard of before!
Going vegan is associated with many myths- these are just some of the most common.
Don’t be afraid to do a little research before jumping on the myth bandwagon.
